This recital is simply a fun opportunity to gain performance experience and meet other students who are also apart of Ruthie Jo's online music studio! *I am not able to set the age range to perfectly fit my student base, so even if Outschool says your student is outside the age range, they are not! You're still able to sign up.* This recital is a private link because I am not opening it up to the public on Outschool. You can rest assured that all performers have been my students for at least several months, and they are all absolutely kind and wonderful kids. Depending on how many are interested, we could have 4-15 performers. The length of the recital will depend on how many participate, but I will make sure it doesn't exceed 40 min, even if we have a lot of students. It probably will be close to 30 min or less. For this recital, students will perform 1-2 pieces that we have prepared in our lessons. I will choose pieces that they have mastered somewhat recently and feel totally comfortable with. Once I have a list of who is going to participate, I will share an order of the program on the class page so that the students can anticipate the order of the performances. Once the recital begins after a brief introduction, students will remain on mute unless it is their turn to perform, or if they would like to raise their hand and encourage another player after their performance. Before each student plays, I will allow them to briefly introduce themselves if they would like to, and I will comment about something specific they are learning. Most students are new to piano within a year or so, but there will be a somewhat wide range of ages and levels. This diversity will be an engaging experience as everyone will get to hear other players' skill level/musical style. I hope it will be a great experience to instill performance confidence in these players! Please reach out if you have any questions!

Hi, my name is Mrs. Ruthie, and I am so excited to meet you!
I am a professional harpist and private music teacher living in West Tennessee, USA. I teach from my own music studio online and in-person, and I am thrilled to expand my studio onto the Outschool platform. In my studio, I specialize in teaching private piano, voice, and harp lessons. Here on Outschool, you will find my "Piano Lessons: Personalized for You!" for any age group, as well as fun, small group singing classes for young learners and teenagers.
Music has been in my life since I was very young, when I began learning the piano at the age of 4. I started studying the harp at age 11, receiving my Diploma in Harp Performance from the acclaimed Associated Board of the Royal School of Music (ABRSM) in 2018. I am an alumni of Union University in Tennessee where I studied harp, voice, and piano. I graduated with my Bachelor's of Music in Composition in 2020.
Along with my classical music studies, I have well-rounded experience participating in many different styles of music while playing the harp, piano, or being a vocalist. I have experience in lead roles in musical theater productions, have participated in high-level choral and A-Capella singing groups, lead music with the piano in contemporary and more traditional churches, and played my harp for countless events ranging from symphonies to private parties. And as much as I love performing, in the last year and a half, I have found that I LOVE teaching music. With over 40 weekly private students ranging from 4 year-olds to 70 year-olds, teaching the beauty of music to my diverse student base keeps me inspired everyday. I hope to inspire your learner to love playing music as much as I do.
