Class Experience

In this beginners class, we will collaboratively review the characteristics of a few different shapes. Next, the students will find out what it means to measure the perimeter of a shape by watching a brief demonstration. Then, we will work out some problems together so that it all begins to make sense. Finally, it will be their turn to show off their skills and solve simple problems, followed by more complex problems, and lastly some word problems in order to illustrate a real life connection.

Learning Goals

Students will learn how their knowledge of different shapes and ability to measure perimeter can solve real life questions.

Teacher expertise and credentials
My experience has been that students need to fully understand the basics pertaining to shapes and perimeter before they can be expected to successfully tackle more difficult concepts such as area and volume. I love studying math, teaching math, and demonstrating that understanding different mathematical concepts can be useful.
