8 hrs 20 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
Learn high-energy Bollywood Dance Routines on a weekly basis for 10 weeks! We will learn fun and active dance routines, focusing on movement execution, rhythm, coordination, memory, styling, confidence and more. Learners will gain a bigger cultural context while learning dance routines. The themes incorporated will be Vaisakhi (Baisakhi) - the Spring Harvest Festival of Punjab, India and Indian Wedding Traditions. My approach to teaching is very interactive. I break down steps in a way that is easy for learners to relate to things they see & activities they do everyday. No prior experience needed. Learners will have the opportunity to interact in class. We will share, ask questions and engage in discussions on the cultural theme during short breaks. Sessions for this age group will be dance focused, but I will give a cultural context to the dance by sharing information on the specific regions of India and festivals celebrated. Each class will alternate between dance components with 2 short breaks. General class structure includes a warm up, dance routine, and cool down stretches. The session ends with a mini-recital for learners to build confidence by performing the dances learned! On the last day, dancers are encouraged to wear festive Indian or non-Indian outfits and perform the dance we learned during the session! WEEKLY BREAKDOWN: Week 1: Dance moves, Intro to India, Punjab, Farming Week 2: Dance moves, Farming, Harvesting Week 3: Dance moves, Harvest celebrations - folk dances, outfits Week 4: Dance moves, celebrations - food Week 5: Review of theme 1 Week 6: Dance moves, Intro to weddings in India Week 7: Dance moves, decorations, Mehendi and Sangeet Week 8: Dance moves, Baraat, and food Week 9: Dance moves, main wedding traditions Week 10: Review, Practice and Recital!
