Description
Class Experience
My career as a sports journalist began in high school. During my junior year on the yearbook staff, I was appointed co-sports editor, where I wrote stories and snapped photos at football games. As a professional, I spent 20 years as an editor and writer for three Texas newspapers. My work in sports journalism and sports blogging is found in print and online coverage of 2 Olympics (Summer and Winter), 2 Super Bowls, 2 NFL Drafts, and countless state championship competitions (both public and private schools). Since 2014, I have taught English composition to Dallas high school and community college students.
Each week will include an engaging homework assignment. They are intended for students to grow as sports bloggers.
Teacher will provide a one-page course outline.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Learner progress will be assessed by students' ability to participate in weekly assignments, apply digital skills to their sports blog posts, reply to class discussions, and serve as peer reviewers of sports blog ideas.
No live meetings, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Students will have to use Instagram for two days to complete their social media promotion assignment for class. Parents are advised to assist minor students on this assignment, as students may encounter vulgar language or insensitive comments.
