Spooky Ways to Get To 20

In this fun, Halloween themed class, we will start out with an introduction to different types of word problems.  Then, each learner will get a chance to decorate their own haunted house drawings.  No special art materials are needed for this.  Learners will be provided with a haunted house template which they can print or hand draw onto a blank piece of paper before class.  We will use markers, crayons, colored pencils, or other drawing materials to decorate the haunted house template with 20 spooky items.  We will brainstorm a list of spooky items at the beginning of class to help learners with ideas. Then, we will use our drawings as inspiration for some spooky math problems and word problems.  We will spend time sharing our problems and stories, and then share our strategies for solving them.  This class focuses on addition and subtraction within 20, but may be adjusted to meet the needs of the learners in the class.
