Get ready to light up your Halloween with this electrifying class! In Spooky Science, we’ll dive into the fascinating world of chemistry to uncover the secrets behind glow-in-the-dark reactions. From eerie green potions to bioluminescent creatures, learners will explore the science of phosphorescence and luminescence, discovering how certain materials absorb and release energy as light. I will demonsrate with different chemicals from glow sticks. Then we will be making glow in the dark pumpkins using non-toxic, child-safe neon paints in various colors! By the end of the class, they’ll understand the science behind everything from glow sticks to bioluminescent creatures. It’s a bright way to bring some spooky magic to the classroom! Prepare to be amazed as we combine chemistry with Halloween thrills! Academic Standards: 2-PS1-1: Plan and conduct an investigation to describe and classify different kinds of materials by their observable properties.
Learning Goals
Learners will be able to explain the basic principles of luminescence, including how certain materials absorb light energy and re-emit it, creating a glowing effect.Learners will compare chemical reactions that produce light, such as phosphorescence and fluorescence, and will understand the differences between these processes.
