55 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
In this one time class, students will have the opportunity to flex their creative writing muscle and use their love for their hamster(s) and Halloween! Students will write their very own "Spooky Halloween Hamster Story" and then have the opportunity to share with the class. The class will start with brief introductions. Then, a spooky hamster story will be read out loud (written by Ms. M) for children to enjoy and have an example of what they'll be doing themselves. Then students will be given 15-20 minutes to write their own spooky story featuring their hamster. Students are welcome to type of write out their story on paper during this time. Students are also welcome to use voice-to-text features, as long as their mic is muted. The chat will be available to receive help from the teacher but students are also encouraged to raise their hand and ask for assistance during this time. This class is all about having fun and enjoying their time (while incorporating some literacy in there!) so there is no pressure on spelling, grammar or structure. Students should be comfortable writing in a time frame of 15-20 minutes, and sharing their work. If your child is not comfortable with this, or you have questions on their ability in this class, please reach out to me before enrolling so we can chat to make sure your child has the best time! Students will enjoy sharing their spooky stories with the rest of the class after the writing time is up. Students who were unable to finish writing during the allotted time will be able to finish while others are starting to share or are welcome to finish later and share what they have!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Texas Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
Hello there! My name is Meri Sue Michalak, or Ms. M, and I teach classes with the intention of developing life-long, confident and independent learners. Whether that be through my fun social clubs, writing courses or private tutoring, the goal is to give students the tools they need to succeed in being their absolute BEST self. I believe that at the root of teaching is not just about presenting curriculum or hitting learning goals; it's developing a child as a whole. You will find that I am extremely personable and engaging with all of my students. I believe that every child deserves an equitable learning experience so I always take care in developing courses that serve all learning styles. I have 10+ years of experience in the childcare and education field. From Preschool Music Teacher, After-School Care Site Director to Private Elementary Tutor, I have a well-rounded professional background. I also have a Bachelors degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, EC-8 and I hold a Teaching Certificate for EC-8th grade. One of my favorite things about working in this field are the relationships I've built with families and kiddos. Many of my students are ones I've known for years and watched grow into themselves.
You can find me in Austin, Texas (keepin' it weird!) with my husband MJ, preschooler Maxine, and two doggies Luke and Willie. I love cooking, baking (and tending to my sourdough!), writing, reading, watching a good TV series and spending time with friends & family.
I hope to meet you soon! Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions. I love to chat with families about their specific needs so I can accommodate to the best of my ability.
