In this course, we will explore well known pieces of classical music that have come to be thought of as spooky enough to be played at Halloween. The pieces of music include Danse Macabre by Saint-Saens, Night on Bald Mountain by Mussorgsky, Toccata and Fugue by J.S. Bach, and In the Hall of the Mountain King by Grieg. While these names might not sound familiar, almost everyone will recognize the pieces immediately. We will discuss what specific musical aspects of these pieces have made them...
Students will learn about specific techniques these composers used to make their music sound spooky, leading to their popularity.
This class is best with headphones, so you can hear the music clearly.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
