Hello Wonderful Parents! My first grade curriculum class was such a hit, I had many parents request a continuation of the class to keep little learners active with their learning before they start second grade! If you took my first grade class class, or if you are going to be starting second grade, this class is for you! We will learn sights words, reading and spelling rules. We will work on our reading comprehension and understanding the parts of a story and story elements. We will learn and master a variety of math skills, including but not limited to number sense, place value, addition, subtraction, time, money and more. Students will also learn to write and share information in a variety of ways, including drawing, writing letters and words, listening to others, and speaking aloud. Activities and skills we will work on include and are not limited to: • Reading sight words • Growing our vocaulary with a word of the day. Using inferencing to figure out what the word means, as well as hearing the definition. • We will be studying words in our word work time, and working on blends, digraphs, rhyming words, segmenting, blending, and identifying syllables in words. • We will review reading/spelling rules such as hard c/soft c, hard g/soft g, the rules with c,k, ck, adding suffixes. We will be learning syllable rules ( open and closed.) • Reading Comprehension • Identifying characters, settings, and major events in a story • Recognizing the person, place, thing, or idea that an illustration shows • Participating in discussions by listening and taking turns speaking • Counting and identifying numbers • Number sense/place value • Time • Money • Greater than and less than • Ordinal Numbers • Addition and Subtraction • Missing Addends • Using a combination of drawing, speaking, and writing to describe an event, give information about a topic, or share an opinion This class has a lot of information to be learned. I do ask that you teach your child how to mute and unmute. I do sometimes need to mute, while I am teaching a concept. A simple background noise like a dog barking or someone on the phone, or even an echo depending on their location, or students making sounds, can disrupt the learning and flow of the class. I do love to engage with the students, and I ask that they know how to unmute themselves when called on. If your child is in a quiet environment, muting is not necessary, as long as they are respectful ( ie: not making noises, talking, singing during instruction.) I appreciate your understanding in this! It really does make the world of a difference. I want everyone to get what they deserve out of the class, with minimal distractions. Please be sure to bring a white board, dry erase marker, and eraser or a piece of paper and pencil. Weekly Schedule: Mondays: Vocaulary, sight words, phonics/spelling, word work. Tuesdays: Language arts skill for the week Wednesdays: Calendar Time, math skill for the week

Class Policies:
1. Unless the class specifically requires for more than 1 learner ( example: my halloween party or social club). I will still hold class for one student. My children get so excited for their classes, I would never want to cancel on an excited student ready to learn!
2. I will admit students to the classroom right at the scheduled time, even if not every student is present. If there is a technical issue and I cannot enter the classroom, I will contact parents through the classroom page and I will also contact Outschool.
3. I will always finish class as close to the scheduled amount of time as possible. Depending on low enrollment numbers or extended discussion for very active speakers, the class may run a few minutes short or long.
4. If no students are present in the classroom when class is meant to begin, I will wait 10 minutes before exiting. Once I exit the classroom, the class will be considered finished.
