Each section will use instruction, activities, and music created specifically for young cheerleaders. That means, you can rest assured that every lesson is designed with developmental goals for this age group in mind. • Warm-Up: Each class will begin with a freestyle dance party, guided stretches, and tumbling drills to get cheerleaders moving and engage them with strength, flexibility, and coordination. Cheerleaders will only need enough space to stretch and move around for this section. • Tumbling Time: Next, cheerleaders will practice foundational tumbling drills through guided instruction and fun games. This section will focus on building strength and coordination as well as improving technique for safe tumbling tricks. Gymnasts will only need a safe space to tumble and move around for this section. A mat or soft surface is recommended but not required. • Dance & Cheer: To end each class, cheerleaders will get out their pom poms to dance and cheer together. This section will include a dance routine designed to engage cheerleaders with rhythm, coordination, and attitude followed by an easy to learn cheer. Cheers will include a fun challenge as well as a spotlight time to encourage the development of memory and confidence. Cheers, challenges, and spotlights will incorporate themes such as pride, sass, and spirit. Cheerleaders will only need enough space to stretch and move around for this section. Pom poms will be used during this time, but are not required for this class. Class Themes Sample Schedule Below is a sample schedule for cheer lesson plans.
