Class Experience

In this one-time class, the student will learn basic facts about spiders. "Spider" starts with the letter S and has 8 legs. We will incorporate letter recognition, letter sound, and number 8 into our time together. The student will have the opportunity to write the letter S, number 8, and draw a spider. We will read Eric Carle's The Very Busy Spider to explore fun, fictional literature. We will enjoy counting spiders and spider legs. I like to take topics of interest to the student and blend the fundamentals of letter recognition, phonics, and numbers into the topic. This helps the student make associations. This method is beneficial for the student that is not showing interest in letters or numbers yet.

Learning Goals

Students will learn that spiders are not insects. They are arachnids. The student will practice counting to number 8 at a 1:1 ratio as we count spider legs. Students will practice recognizing letter S. Students will practice making the sound of the letter S.
