Class Experience
In this class, late elementary and early middle school students will read the comic book, "Marvel Adventures Spider-Man #1" (written by Kitty Fross through Marvel comics; rated for "All Ages" according to Marvel Comics) as a central text to learn about the literacy element known as moral. The class will begin with discussion activities to allow all learners to feel welcome and comfortable with each-other before being taught the definition of moral, practice identifying it with...
Students will learn the literacy element known as moral and practice identifying it within a text. They will also learn a little bit of Marvel super-hero trivia depending on how much they already know!
Certification to Teach (through the University of Nebraska at Omaha) Endorsement in English/Language Arts Bachelor's degree from Grace University Years of experience working in educational settings (nonprofit work, paraprofessional, after-school-program, student-teaching)
Students will need to acquire and read the central text PRIOR TO CLASS: "Marvel Adventures Spider-Man #1" (written by Kitty Fross through Marvel comics; rated for "All Ages" according to Marvel Comics). The comic is 22 pages long and should not take more than a half an hour to complete (depending on reading-level)

Students will be provided with skeleton notes so they can follow along with the lesson and have the content available to them upon completion of the class.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
All class content is rated for "All Ages" according to Marvel Comics, however, it does contain minimal adventure and violence as expected of a super-hero comic. Punching, throwing,and attacking is seen. Crime (such as theft) and negative attributes (greed and selfishness) are depicted but NOT encouraged. A death occurs off-panel and is grieved over.
