Students will be taught sound and letter correspondence to a master list of second grade spelling words through kinesthetics and appropriate word games. The students will learn the sounds in each spelling word and what letter combinations are associated with the sounds. The teacher will show students how to count the sounds vs. the letters in a word. She will then do a fun kinesthetic activity to distinguish the features of the letters in each word. The following schedule will build recognition of spelling words by associating the letters with activities done in class. DAY 1 The students will write the week's spelling list in their spelling notebooks. Teacher will lead the students in counting the sounds in each word and focus the students toward recognition of what letter or letters make each sound. The students will practice spelling the words with a kinesthetic activity (i.e. sit, stand, stoop or cheer spelling) The students will take turns sharing a sentence for each word in order to discuss the meaning and context of the word. The teacher will lead a word game to enhance recognition of the spelling words. DAY 2 Teacher will lead the students in counting the sounds in each word and focus the students toward recognition of what letter or letters make each sound. The students will practice spelling the words with a coloring activity after a kinesthetic activity (see above). The teacher will lead a second word game to enhance recognition of the spelling words. DAY 3 Teacher will lead the students in counting the sounds in each word and focus the students toward recognition of what letter or letters make each sound. The students will practice spelling the words singing high, middle and low sounds while reaching high, holding hands at waist and dropping arms to side. The teacher will lead a third word game to enhance recognition of the spelling words. DAY 4 Teacher will lead the students in counting the sounds in each word and focus the students toward recognition of what letter or letters make each sound. The students will practice spelling the words in cheer. The teacher will lead a fourth word game to enhance recognition of the spelling words. DAY 5 Teacher will conduct a spelling quiz as she counts the sounds of each spelling word and puts them in sentences. The students will self-grade their spelling quiz. The teacher will lead a final word game to enhance recognition of the spelling words.

Teacher expertise and credentials
(Taking temporary break from Outschool)
I am a certified elementary school teacher who is best at teaching kindergarten through fourth grade curriculum in reading, writing, math and science. I possess an MA degree in Elementary Education.
It is my philosophy and experience that all children learn differently and at different paces. It is up to the teacher to find each student's zone of proximal development and start instruction from there. As well, it is best to chunk information into steps or manageable bites to digest so-to-speak. I believe most children can learn if their abilities and their stumbling blocks are taken into consideration. In fact, the stumbling blocks, show us where to begin our lessons!
I have published four children's books and written screenplays on the middle two. Both screenplays have won quarterfinalist placing in contests and one placed as a Top 10 Screenplay at the WildSound Family and Film Festival in Toronto, Canada. Through entry into the New Voices in Animation Festival, I am now a member of Stage 32 (a network of film industry professionals and a source for webinars on how to improve your craft and marketing strategies).
