Using the Structured Word Inquiry approach to spelling, decoding and vocabulary skills, we will work with base words to discuss spelling changes with suffixes, meaning changes with prefixes, parts of speech, grammar, and so much more!

In this class, students will gain an understanding of English morphology (the study of the forms of words: bases, prefixes and suffixes) that will broaden their vocabulary, reading skills, and understanding of how English spelling works.
I have had extensive professional development in the ideas presented in this class, and have seven years of experience teaching this content in a classroom setting.
No homework will be assigned, but be aware that your learner may start to become a decomposer of words they see all around them and a hunter of prefixes and suffixes! Each week I will post the word matrix we used together in class for your learner to continue to practice with or to share their findings with you!
Students will need pencil and paper on which to do their word building. I would recommend a notebook where they can keep all their work over the course of their time in this class, as they may also choose to keep lists of prefixes, bases and suffixes that we work with.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
