Join the party to prepare for this week's spelling test!  In this study session students will be tackling the five toughest words of their  weekly spelling list (learner needs to pick 5 words before class).   We will enjoy  finding clues, learning tips and tricks and using visual word association. Let's dust off those thinking caps and enjoy studying for the spelling test! 
1. Students will identify parts of the words and look for clues (ex. special sounds, blends, tricky combinations).
2. Students  will share ideas and word associations.
3. Teacher will model using different techniques.
4. At the end of the class, we will have a practice test.

Students will demonstrate confidence and ability to tackle the five toughest words on their spelling list.

Other Details

Supply List
Students will need a bin/box with the following supplies available:  white board, white board markers, white board eraser (a sock works), colored pencils or crayons, 2 pencils with erasers, 3 sheets of notebook paper, 3 sheets of copy paper, five 3 X 5 cards.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Hello!  My name is Mrs. Theresa  Howard. I am a  certified teacher with 25 years of experience in the classroom (K-6). My  endorsements include Early Childhood, Reading and ELL (English as a Second Language). My professional background includes classroom teaching grades 1-3, several years as  an elementary principal and helping over 100 Outschool learners from around the world become more confident and  fluent readers.  Please enjoy perusing the  different levels of reading classes that I offer.
      I am most passionate about helping children build a strong phonics foundation. It is my joy to teach children how to read and to share my love of reading.  I implement fun strategies to provide lessons that motivate students to become more fluent readers. My philosophy in teaching is to  meet learners where they are  and to celebrate their successes each step of the way.   In my spare time I enjoy activities with my family and grandchildren,  swimming and reading a good book!  I look forward to extending these opportunities to more children around the globe!
