Based on high frequency words from 3rd and 4th grade, we will be learning how to spell 3 - 4 words each class. Please note - I don't teach the rules of spelling words, just tips and tricks of most words that don't follow rules. We discuss creative ways to remember them. Students are welcome to come to class with words they need help spelling as well. Each week we will cover 3 - 4 words, some examples follow, in no particular order: distinction, embarrassing, resilient, pizza, multiplication, favorite, especially, spaghetti, beautifully, college, chocolate, mountain, very, pickle, elementary, ninja, maybe, because, shopping, important, done, draw, eight, grow, laugh, during, become, eerie, months, erupts, interrupted, should have/of, into/in to, it’s/its, equally, laughs, raspberry, said, perhaps, course, grew, Knew, Knife, floating, going, train, theater, recording, rocket, scared, practice, licorice, yesterday, house, omelets, laugh, traffic, astronaut, capitalize, and more words! I will share 3 - 4 words that are commonly misspelled for 3rd/4th graders. I will share tips and tricks of how to remember the spelling of words, including syllables, words within the words, stories, as well as discussions about the words. Students will be encouraged to share their tricks as well. I will share the week's words with the students. I will share tricks and give them time to share their ideas also. At the end of each class we will read sentences with the words in it. If time allows, they will also be encouraged to create their own sentences, reinforcing the meaning of the words. There will be one-on-one interaction with me, and will say each child's name during class. My teaching style is patient and engaging. I love to bring humor to my class, as it makes the material more fun to learn. Prior knowledge of reading skills is required. Students will not need to build on prerequisite knowledge from each prior class and will be able to join or leave throughout the course. This is an ongoing, subscription class.

I love teaching about so many topics including; animals, social studies/geography, science, life skills, and reading/fluency skills.
I have taught for 14 years in brick and mortar schools and online for 5 years, including 3 years of ESL/ESOL. I am TESOL certified. I have experience with the Orton-Gillingham (OG) reading program and teaching kids with ADHD and Dyslexia. I struggled as a learner so understand that everyone learns differently. I like to get to know my students and what they enjoy learning.
I touch on the various ways we learn by hearing, seeing, doing, and talking about the topics.
I am the proud mom of two older boys, ages 22 and 18. I also love animals and have a CUTE dog named Myles and snake named Harley! (You can meet Harley in my Introduction to Snakes class.)
I live in Arizona and enjoy traveling. I have been to Mexico, Israel, England, and most recently Japan.
