Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
In this class, we will learn to read, spell, and write sight words from Kindergarten sight words and up. We will meet three times a week to discuss that week's sight words. Words will get harder as the weeks' progress.

To learn the sight words we will play games, make up silly sentences, say the letters out loud, and encourage each other to remember the words.

We will meet on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Tuesday and Thursday you will be expected to spend at least 10 minutes studying the spelling words and completing assigned activities on your own. Friday will be a short quiz and an introduction to the new spelling words.

Week 1
*Spelling List 1
Week 2
*Spelling List 2
Week 3
*Spelling List 3
Week 4
*Spelling List 4

*If the words for the week are extremely easy, we will move to the next week's words. There are more advanced spelling lists based on the student's output. (Spelling List 5 through Spelling List 8)

NOTE: Students will need to ability to use the "annotate" function during class. This function is not available on all devices.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Sight words are extremely important to remember. Sight words often times do not follow rules and we are not able to sound out the words. After seeing my own children struggle, I found ways to encourage them and found that games and repetition are the best ways to encourage children to remember sight words.
