The class will take an in depth look at different spelling rules and spelling patterns in the English language. The students will learn by practicing the words and a spelling bee at the end of class. The first 5 minutes will be practicing and learning the rule for the week. The last 20 minutes will be a spelling bee type game where each student will be asked to spell the words we learned. I will provide the words to practice before class. I will also provide links to other games to reinforce what is learned in class at home. Background Knowledge: The students need to be reading at a third grade level or higher. The spelling words will be at a 4th and 5th grade level. Thu, Sep 21 - prefixes Thu, Sep 28 suffixes Thu, Oct 5 - homophones Thu, Oct 12 - compound words The learners will be evaluated by writing and reciting spelling words. At the end, the learners will participate in a spelling game to test their knowledge. It will be a fun, low pressure game to allow learners to practice spelling.
