Students will learn whether to use a C or K at the beginning of a one-syllable word. Learning will happen in a variety of ways including a slide presentation, group discussion/practice and independent work. We will start the class with a quick introduction and then get right into it! We will learn about the C or K spelling rule and work on understanding examples together. Learners will walk away with better understanding of when to use a C or K in a one syllable word.
Students will learn about the C or K spelling rule as it pertains to the beginning of a word. They will know when to spell a word with a C and when to spell it with a K.
I tutor using an Orton-Gillingham based program that encourages multi-sensory learning. I am patient, kind and aim for true understanding from all my students. Learning to read and spell takes practice and perseverance! With help, all children can learn how to read and spell.
No assigned homework! However, I will upload worksheets/activities AFTER class that can be done for further practice. The best way for students to get better at spelling is to practice.
PDF documents will be provided AFTER class for follow up practice. There are no documents needed before class. No materials need to be purchased.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
No parental guidance is needed. It might benefit students if parents listen in so they can help reinforce new spelling rules at home. Students that will benefit from this course the most have learned all their letter sounds, know vowels from consonants and have started sounding out and spelling short words. I will review important pieces necessary for understanding the spelling rule before we launch into learning!
