Class Experience

Class Description:
In this interactive course, students will move beyond basic phonics and decoding skills to confidently read and spell multisyllabic words. We’ll focus on breaking down words into smaller, manageable parts using morphology, which includes understanding prefixes, base words, and suffixes. By learning how these word parts work together, students will enhance their ability to decode longer words, improve spelling, and build vocabulary. This course is perfect for students who have mastered basic phonics and are ready to advance their reading and spelling skills.

Class Experience:
This class is structured to provide a balanced mix of instruction and interactive practice. Each lesson will focus on a specific morphology concept, such as how to identify and use prefixes, roots, and suffixes. We'll break multisyllabic words into parts, decoding and spelling one syllable at a time.

How I teach:
I will teach using a combination of direct instruction, interactive slides, and fun activities to engage students. I'll guide students through word breakdowns, provide examples, and lead hands-on practice through games and exercises. Each lesson will include opportunities for students to ask questions and work through examples together, making sure they grasp each concept before moving on.

Teaching Style:
My teaching style is supportive, interactive, and hands-on. I aim to create a positive and engaging learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, sharing answers, and participating in activities. I use visual aids, interactive slides, and verbal explanations to ensure that students understand and retain key concepts.

Student Interaction:
Students will have plenty of opportunities to interact with me throughout the course. In each lesson, we’ll have open discussions about new vocabulary, and I’ll guide students as they break down words and work through examples. Students will actively participate in games, activities, and quizzes, receiving real-time feedback. They’ll also have opportunities for peer collaboration in some activities, helping each other decode and spell challenging words.

This engaging, interactive approach ensures students not only understand how to decode and spell longer words but also build a deeper understanding of word meanings, setting them up for long-term success in reading and writing.
