Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
Your word is....Tournament.
This is a chance to take your spelling and public speaking skills to the next level and compete with other learners in a true elimination-style Spelling Bee.

Learners will be competing with other learners on the same level: One Bee, Two Bee or Three Bee, based on the Scripps Spelling List (see link below regarding levels). Learners will be given a word and they will be able to ask for a definition, origin or for it to be used in a sentence. They will then use the proper format of saying the word, spelling the word, and then saying it again.

If a word is misspelled, the learner will be eliminated from the core competition. However, all learners will be asked to spell every word in a private chat, so even if they eliminated, they can still practice spelling. At the end of the class, the overall Bee winner will be named, and also an award to the learner that spelled the most words correctly through the chat. Every learner will be provided a certificate of completion.

While this is a competition style class, our overall goal is to improve self-confidence in public speaking situations. We also offer this class in a non-competitive environment. You can see that class here: https://outschool.com/classes/spelling-bee-club-7Y0tZVTx#usfWkMy7s8

Levels are defined by 3 "Bees", and there will be separate tournament classes for each. When reviewing the list, please look for the ones labeled "School Spelling Bee Study List". The pages listed "Words of Champions" will only be used to break a tie. In an effort to make this a fair competition, please only enroll your learner in the Bee that is on their level, not one below their level.

4/30/22: 12:00 EST - One Bee
4/30/22: 1:00 EST - Two Bee
4/30/22: 2:00 EST - Three Bee

Hello! I'm Elizabeth Green, founder of Green Communications and My Speech and Debate Coach.

I'm honored to lead a small group of teachers with a passion for helping kids learn how to communicate confidently and effectively in public speaking situations. We are proud to be named Outschool's Best In Class in 2023 and 2024!

-------New to Outschool? Save $20 on ANY class with code: ElizabethGr20---------

We all have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree with a focus on communications (Broadcast Journalism, Theater, Public Relations, etc). We have won numerous awards, competitions and national titles in public speaking and debate.

But most importantly, we know how it feels to be uncomfortable in a public speaking situation, and the importance of overcoming that. We all went through shy stages as children until we had that ONE teacher who impacted us in a way that propelled us to self-confidence, public speaking competitions, and even careers in communications!

Whether it's having the courage to stand up and spell an unknown word in a spelling bee, write and/or deliver compelling lines from a play, craft an effective impromptu speech, or seal the deal in a debate tournament with a persuasive closing round, our goal is to BE that teacher for your child.

And, have a lot of fun in the process. :)
