In this on-going class, learners will receive a new list of spelling words each week and will practice reading, writing, and spelling them. Each word list is based on one of 15 important phonics rules! Studies have shown that children with strong phonological awareness can use their understanding of letters and sounds as a foundation to spell increasing challenging words. Class Structure: -Interactive mini lesson introducing the phonics rule of the week - Word identification of the words that follow the phonics rule - Introduction of the week's spelling words that follow the phonics rule - Practice reading, writing, and verbally spelling the words on the spelling list aloud using the free printable OR pencil and paper if access to a printer is limited. - Spelling game (varied week by week) to practice spelling the words from memory! ____________________________________________________________________________ The Phonics Rules in the First Several Weeks: Week of October 31st - One Syllable Words Week of November 7th - Two-Syllable Words Week of November 14th - Long Vowel Sounds Week of November 21st - Short Vowel Sounds Week of November 28th - Vowel Digraphs Week of December 5th - R-Controlled Syllables Week of December 12th - The "schwa" Sound And so on as we work through all 15 rules!

Supply List
- Pencil preferred, but a pen is also acceptable - A one-page printable will be provided. If possible, please print and have ready at the beginning of each class meeting. If access to a printer is limited, however, paper and pencil can be substituted for the printable.

I have also taught public speaking strategies to help learners become more confident as speakers. I have taught in both the public school classroom and online for many years and use research-based strategies to make learning enjoyable and effective.
