US Grade 6 - 9
In this ongoing class, learners will have a chance to show their spelling skills while participating in a fun and light-hearted competition. We use the current Scripps Spelling Bee word list to help prepare learners for any future formal competitions they would like to participate in. The Spelling Bee will be judged according to the number of words spelled correctly. We will not eliminate learners when a word is misspelled. This is to ensure everyone can participate throughout the entire class. Learners will also be given words from the level selected by the parent (see below). The order and words will be drawn randomly during class from the Scripps prep list. If the prior week's winner is in class, they will have a choice of going first or last. Our goal is to help your learner practice their spelling and public speaking skills in a fun and encouraging environment. Although a winner will be declared at the end of each class, the focus is more on encouraging everyone to be able to speak up and speak clearly in any situation. Parents: Please take a quick look at this sample list and let us know before class where we should start with your learner. It's broken down by grade level and 3 levels within each grade (one bee, two bee, three bee). We want to use words that will encourage and challenge your learner at the same time. Our goal will be to have a starting place, and we will increase the level as we go. https://usd437.net/files/fe/2020/scripps-spelling-bee.pdf Week of 1/6/22: Words that start with N Week of 1/13/22: Nouns Week of 1/20/22: Adjectives Week of 1/27/22: Words that start with Z We also have a Spelling Bee class for learners 11 and under. Elizabeth Green Communications is a small group of teachers with a passion for helping others learn how to communicate. Our teachers have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree with a focus on communications (Broadcast Journalism, Theater, Public Relations, etc). We all went through shy stages as children until we had that ONE teacher that impacted us in a way that propelled us to a career in communications. Whether it's having the courage to stand up and spell a word in a spelling bee, deliver an impromptu speech, or win a debate with an amazing closing round, our goal is to BE that teacher.
