Class Experience

Students will need no prior knowledge of Arabic to take this class. They will learn how to speak and listen in Arabic for at least 80% of class time, using strategies such as choral repetition, gestures, standard questions, teacher led expression and drawings to stay in the immersive language environment.
They will learn how to indicate an item, express a preference, ask a question, answer basic questions in full sentences.
They will learn vocabulary related to pleasantries, food, clothing, sports and physical actions. Traditional foods from the Arabic speaking world will also be introduced.
The week by week outline below will follow the recycle and spiral approach to language learning. This means that the goal is to improve retention by reinforcing old vocabulary every week while adding increments of new vocabulary, related to the topic and student context.
Review will be embedded into activities, not lists, such as gesture prompting, having students draw pictures, as well as either or questions
Games like Simon Says, will also be used to help with review.
