Class experience
Students are constantly exposed to speaking..I will share a story, or a short clip followed by students' expressing observations and favorite parts, and are given an opportunity to share their own favorite book or toy. Students become comfortable enough to share the things they love, and then begin to structure their shares in a confident or organized manner. Speaking confidently, Using words as an outlet, learning healthy and unhealthy outlets, discovering emotions behind various forms of storytelling (dance, singing, writing), exercises to prepare for public speaking, patience and courtesy when someone is speech-giving, and ease in self-expression.
Homework Offered
Students will choose objects to speak about in the next class, may be asked to find a simple prop or costume if they would like, will be asked to review their favorite book in order to summarize it in a speech, draw a picture as another form of self-expression (besides words), and decide on a How-To skill they can teach the class (like brushing teeth, baking something, or washing hands).Assessments Offered
It will be assessed in class by their progress with public speaking.Grades Offered
Bring a favorite book or toy. Sometimes we use hats/crowns/tiaras. Homework will occasionally require coloring or drawing on paper.
