Informal, in-classClass Experience
US Grade 4 - 7
Students will learn basic speech outline and we will practice giving speeches/presentations on different topics, such as favorite animal, sports, food, indoor hobbies, and more. Students will be given some time to prepare a simple speech based on the speech outline. If there is enough time, students will be allowed to discuss the topics and ask questions to each other for more learning. This class is focused more on speech delivery rather than speech writing, since it's the speaking part that students struggle with more. We will work on mainly 3 different types of public speaking: Informative, Persuasive, and Debate, but the students will also get an opportunity to do other types of speeches as well. Improvement in giving speeches and presentations can help students improve their confidence, speaking, writing, English, vocabulary, and listening. It is a skill that we all need to develop. Studies show that people's #1 fear is public speaking, so students will be allowed to develop their speech skills in a fun and safe environment with teacher support. Students will receive constructive criticism and encouragement so they can understand what they are doing well and what they need to focus on for improvement. Please be advised that this is not an ESL class and your child is expected to know how to speak, listen to, read and write English.
