In this six-session class, students learn how to effectively tell a compelling, engaging story. Students will learn the required speaking and nonverbal skills, such as vocal modulation, pace, gestures, facial expressions, pops & blocking.

Description

Class Experience

Storytelling is a mix of both speech and theater.  It consists of sharing a story with an audience, performed as if the audience were a group of young children. Storytelling is designed to test students' speaking interpretation skills through script analysis, delivery, timing, and character development. Students usually portray multiple characters while they tell the story. No props or costumes are used. Performances also include an introduction written by the student to contextualize the...

Students will be expected to memorize and practice their storytelling between classes - each week they will be given an assignment so that they will prepare to perform a specified piece during the following class.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

3 hours 45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 4+ hours per week outside of class.
