30 mins in-class hours per weekClass Experience
This is a special needs friendly class for students that struggle with comprehension. A slower pace, visuals, and individual accommodations make this story time great for students working on improving specific reading skills. Gentle guidance is provided for peer interaction. While reading the story, we discuss the events and cover important comprehension skills such as... - Predicting (What will happen next?) - Sequence of events (What happened first, next....) - Cause and Effect (Why did that happen?) - "Wh" questions (who, what, where, when, why...) - Time is given to interact with peers, share ideas and interests, with guidance. Students can bring a stuffed animal or favorite toy to listen to and interact with fictional stories read aloud by Mrs. D. Come make friends or just enjoy the story. Join anytime for a new story each week. Mrs. Dania has been a special education teacher for over 20 years, teaching children with varying exceptionalities and abilities.
Learning Goals
Students will improve listening comprehension skills and demonstrate understanding of "wh" questions, sequencing, predicting, cause and effect, and have time to socialize with peers.
