Class Experience
Students will learn: MAKEUP Professional makeup application including preparation, safety, and proper removal. SPECIAL EFFECTS MAKEUP (SFX) How to do SFX makeup effects like scars, bruises, zombie effects, and more out of cotton balls, paper towels, wax, spirit gum, liquid latex, and fake blood, repurposed or recycled materials, makeup, paper, and/or other easily accessible & affordable materials. PLANNING & DESIGN How to use a facechart and/or vision board to design their looks. SAFETY & MAINTENANCE How to properly use and maintain makeup products and tools. PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEOGRAPHY How to take professional pictures and videos to build a portfolio to showcase your artistry.
Minimal homework. (Optional) PLANNING & DESIGN Research their character and work on their facechart and/or vision board. SAFETY & MAINTENANCE Inventory their own products and tools to ensure they are maintaining them safely. SFX MAKEUP Practice special effects makeup techniques. PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEOGRAPHY Compile and organize previous work into their portfolio. AFTER CAMP COMPLETION Keep practicing! Mastery is achieved through dedication to practice. Create as often as possible! Students are encouraged to come to our GRWM & Cosplay Social Parties as often as they would like!
Teacher will provide a detailed list of products and tools they will be using. However, teachers emphasize ingenuity and improvisation. There are many ways to achieve the same makeup look and teacher will help students to find a suitable substitution found within their own makeup kits. For students that don't have any products or tools of their own, we have starter kits available for every budget (optional). Additionally, we provide all students with a printable facechart and vision board. Students will need a quiet, organized, well lit workspace. Commonly Used SFX Makeup Tools: Scissors, SPIRIT GUM (or lash glue in a pinch), hot glue gun & glue, lip liner, liquid latex, fake blood, cotton balls, paper towels, body/ face paints (cream or water based), variety of eyeshadows, makeup, makeup sponges, flat wooden tools, makeup brushes, and a rag.
The last day of class serves as the assessment. Students will put everything they have learned together and will come in costume to the final class, then students and teachers will apply their makeup together. Teacher will continue to guide students to suitable substitutions for products they may not have.
3 hours 45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Parental supervision is recommended. Please be aware that some students may find SFX makeup effects disturbing. Students may be required to use scissors, liquid latex, fake blood, prosthetics, spirit gum. We ask that parent assist students if they will be using a hot glue gun. Please be aware of possible allergic reactions. Please also be aware, as we are new to this platform, we will be training our talented teachers! Each class will have up to two Outschool approved and MUA Co-op trained teachers to help and join in on the fun! Please be aware that makeup artists often utilize their neck and chest as a canvas for bodypaint. Students and teachers may wear a sleeveless shirt.
