Speaking American - What's It Called Where You Live? Geography Matters
What's included

It's fun to learn about different cultures - even within the same country. Consider the name for a carbonated drink. In the mid-west, most call it pop, while on the east coast it's called a soda. Let's chat about different words for the same thing. This is a great class to learn about other cultures as well as have some time to socialize. This will be a relaxed, fun class with a lot of interaction. We will be using Kahoot so each learner can enter their answer for what they call each item. I look forward to meeting your learner in the classroom.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Ms. Lynita. I have been a certified teacher for over 25 years, with experience ranging from preschool and kindergarten to secondary education. I've taught several subjects, and I specifically taught Spanish to students of all ages for over 15 years. On Outschool, I have multiple courses that I bring my expertise to including: Growth Mindset, Mindfulness, and my most popular class, Gratitude. I also offer many fun classes like How to get Your Closet Organized, and United States Dialect (Speaking American) courses where students can learn from each others' experiences.
I'm excited to have the opportunity to continue teaching and sharing my knowledge and positive outlook with my students.
I received my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education with a Spanish Endorsement from Iowa Wesleyan University. During my studies, I was immersed in the Spanish language, and in other cultures, while living with a family in Costa Rica and experiencing their culture. I love sharing the Spanish language with both new and experienced students!
I love helping students figure out how to live their best life by practicing gratitude, having a "can do" attitude, and working through stress and difficult situations.
I am able to incorporate a variety of teaching practices, such as visual, auditory, and hands-on learning. I often model with the teaching strategy: I do, we do, you do. This ensures all learners are able to absorb the lesson by first watching and then doing. I love to have fun in class and I try to incorporate fun songs, sayings, or games to help retain information.
Even though I no longer teach in a public school setting, I would be lost without teaching in some way. I enjoy teaching online and reaching students all over the world. Traveling is also a passion of mine. I believe learning about other cultures can enrich us all, and what better way than by traveling, to experience another culture in person? I am a farmer's wife and love the country life. My husband and I have 4 children and are empty-nesters. I can't wait to meet you in the classroom.
