Class Experience

Public speaking can be terrifying! This ongoing, interactive class is designed to give students the practice they need to become more comfortable speaking to an audience. In each class, students will learn about a specific skill and practice that skill with a short presentation. Students will receive specific feedback on how to improve their public speaking skills focused on their individual needs. We will cover public speaking skills including body language, eye contact, tone, filler words, and more. Students are also welcomed to submit suggestions to the teacher prior to class.

Our classroom is a collaborative community that is a safe space for practicing a very challenging skill (public speaking). Students are expected to be respectful to others as they learn together. Students are also welcomed to share their personal tips and tricks with the class.

Week 1: Nervousness - Students will learn techniques to manage nervousness when speaking with others.
Week of 11/14/2022: Body Language - Students will learn about body language and practice using it during their presentations.
Week of 11/21/2022: Tone - Students will learn how their voice impacts their message. They will practice using their tone to engage their audience.
Week of 11/28/2022: Filler Words - Students will learn common fillers words and tips to reduce them in their presentations.
Learning Goals

- Practice public speaking skills (speaking and preparation)

Hello! My name is Joy and I’m so excited to welcome you to our Outschool family. Let me share a little about myself. I enjoy teaching students to communicate confidently to accomplish their goals. Their goal could be acing a school presentation or convincing mom to purchase the new popular video game. You will find that my classes include topics including:

-	Confident Communication Skills
-	Communication Skills for Introverts
-	Public Speaking & Presentation Skills
-	Goal Setting for Success
-	Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

Currently, I have my bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and I am a Certified Life and Leadership Development Coach. I have experience presenting in the classroom and corporate setting. I’ve worked for multiple Fortune 100 companies and will bring real world experience in a fun and interactive environment.

Our classes are a partnership between the students, their families, and myself. Each class is hyperactive, meaning the students will be speaking and participating throughout class. All students will have the opportunity to share their thoughts, experiences, and presentations to the class. Students will have the opportunity to offer and receive feedback from their peers. This not only creates a collaborative learning community, but also reinforces learning. I also weave the student’s interests into the lessons to keep them engaged.

When in class, you may hear a funny tune. I'm no professional, but I love to make up impromptu songs, rhymes, and raps on almost any subject. So, your student is not on YouTube or TikTok. It's just our creativity on full display.
