Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
Public speaking can be intimidating and a little scary. However, when we learn and practice these skills at a young age we develop confidence for any public speaking arena, whether it is talking to a friend or teacher, or in a large meeting.

In this ongoing, weekly, drop-in club, students will learn to think quickly while developing their public speaking skills. This is a fun, upbeat class designed to make learners feel comfortable speaking in front of others by having them create speeches about topics they know.

In the first half of each class students will be given a fun topic, and then immediately write a 1-3 minute speech. Learners will not be given their topics in advance. All preparation will be done in class--it's Impromptu! It's fast but it's fun!
Once each student has presented their speech we will discuss the interesting information we learned. The second half of class will be used to teach an aspect of public speaking or provide tips or tricks to make their next speech easier. Depending on time, students may have an opportunity to quickly practice this new lesson!

I am an upbeat, energetic teacher who loves teaching public speaking! I love watching learners become comfortable standing up and sharing their thoughts and ideas with others. II take a lot of pride watching my students succeed!
Learning Goals
Students will learn to be comfortable in public speaking situations by focusing on eye contact, volume, speech writing, vocal expression, gestures, and a host of other public speaking skills. In addition, students will also improve their listening, social, and group dynamic skills by supporting and encouraging each other for each speech.
