Class Experience

¡Bienvenidos a la clase de español! Welcome to Spanish class! In this intermediate conversational Spanish class I welcome all students who have had several beginner Spanish classes or have done extensive self study. Our focus will be the most common and high frequency words in Spanish.

We will play games, write stories and have guided conversation all in Spanish. The activities are often silly and include student generated content to make them engaging and memorable.

I am gentle, kind, and encouraging. I rephrase students responses in correct Spanish as a form of gentle correction. Research shows the less stressed students are the better they learn another language! I will teach in Spanish with tons of pictures, gestures and some English when necessary. The goal is 90% Spanish and 10% from me. English is welcome in the chat. Vocabulary and necessary phrases will be given at the beginning of class to maximize meaningful conversation during class.

Weekly topics will rotate:

- Create an original story together
- Picture Chat
- Word Game
- Calendar Chat
- Get to know each other conversation

My style of teaching involves comprehensible input. This means giving students lots of input (Spanish) that’s comprehensible (that they can understand) as the primary teaching method. My teaching philosophy is to teach Spanish the same way your child learned their first language. They may not understand every word but they should always get the gist and be able to follow along. I am here to help them every step of the way! I speak slowly, write out words, use pictures, gestures etc. to make sure students are comprehending the Spanish. When necessary, I explain the grammar. Also, I will provide homework activities to support the learning in class.

Classes will continue with new topics. Each lesson will have vocabulary provided and extension/enrichment activities for self study after class.

I have my BA in Spanish, my MA in Education and 5 years public school experience. I also have taught toddlers in a daycare setting and even classes at the collegiate level. I am a state certified Spanish teacher and grammar nerd.
