I am a firm believer in developing strong public speaking skills in childhood. The more practice a child has, the more proficient they will be - whether they are speaking in social situations or speaking to an audience. Learning public speaking skills can build self-confidence and self-esteem, and can give a child the courage to speak out about things that they believe in or feel strongly about. Each week, students will learn a new public speaking skill that will help learners become...
Students will improve their understanding of basic public speaking skills and presentation development, including overcoming fear and anxiety, choosing a topic and creating an outline, choosing techniques to engage their listeners, and delivering a presentation.
I have worked with children as a Children's Ministry Director for over 8 years training them to perform on stage to recite scripture, pray, sing, and participate in plays and pageants. I also have 6 years of experience teaching presentation skills to children ages 6 through 12 in homeschool co-op classes. I studied and trained with Dale Carnegie's books and courses and used his expertise to develop curricula for children.
Students taking the "Time for Practice" class must have a completed 3-5 min. presentation - this can be in manuscript or key note form, or memorized - otherwise an Impromptu Speech topic will be chosen by the teacher.
Canva slides will be utilized in most classes but Nearpod may be incorporated for some. For those that utilize Nearpod, instructions for use will be posted to the class page. Any handouts to be used in class will be provided for download within 24 hours of class time.
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Parents, please be advised that Nearpod will require students 12 and under to review the Terms of Service with a parent/guardian before opening an account.
