The plan of topics is listed below and may vary depending on the students interests and the class dynamics. week 1: la vivienda: la casa / el apartmento week 2: ser + tener week 3: Where is...? What room is this? answering questions with vocabulary week 4: hay (there is) / estar (to be located) week 5: prepositions of place week 6: review of vocabulary week 7: several subject pronouns: to be (I, different people I live with) week 8: review of vocabulary week 9: mi amiga / mi amigo / mis amigas / mis amigos week 10: more questions + to prefer + to have to Profesora D uses strategies that help students learn quickly and feel good about their ability to learn another language. Class time involves presenting/learning vocabulary (time with teacher), breakouts to practice (with other students) and focus in class is on speaking and conversation for retention and proficiency. Class time involves presenting/learning vocabulary (time with teacher), breakouts to practice (with other students) and focus in class is on speaking and conversation for retention and proficiency. Each topic includes several strategies for learning. Student and instructor create sentences that describe their lives and the people around them, personalities, and interests.. Students speak in Spanish for the majority of class time as conversation is the best way to learn Spanish - by using it! No knowledge of Spanish is needed, as this is beginner/novice level. Students with some introductory Spanish classes can also find success in this class as this course focuses on these specific topics and builds conversational ability in tandem with reading and writing. Listening is incorporated as a natural extension with the other areas. Students may find having a physical notebook (un cuaderno) handy and preferable to an electronic notebook in order to create sentence examples along with Profesora D presents each topic and the lessons in the class/course. This is the fifth of 6 classes that includes an entire year of Spanish 1.

Teacher expertise and credentials
<I am taking a hiatus until January 2025> ~ Profesora D
Hola - I am a National Board Certified Teacher of Spanish language and culture, from the novice levels to advanced of Spanish language learners, including heritage speakers in Washington state. I am a public school teacher for 20+ years, have tried and true methods for language learning, and love to share my passion for this beautiful language with young people. As well as my National Board Certification (until 2031), I have a Master's in Teaching, a Bachelor's of Arts in Spanish, a Bachelor's of Science in Botany, College Board certified to teach AP Spanish Language & Culture, and TEFL certified (Teaching English As A Foreign Language.)
I have loved Spanish since I first heard it at 5 years old and have spent my life immersed in this amazing culture and language. I value hard work more than perfect pronunciation as that will help my students more in life and I know from first hand experience that everyone can learn. My classes are fun, interactive, conversational, and academic (although I slip this in and students are having so much fun that they forget they are in class). I have also created a few classes in Udemy.com that focus on Spanish grammar. In addition, I spend my time with my family and friends, cooking, going on walks, camping, biking, reading, and, of course, watching movies. I can't wait to meet you in our virtual classroom!
