¡Saludos Amigos! ** This section will ONLY be in Spanish for Advanced Speakers** Do you love to cook? Are you learning to speak Spanish? In this class we will do both. All you need is a desire to taste yummy food and learn some new Spanish words at the same time. In this class, we will learn the ingredients, kitchen tools, and instructions to make a mug brownie in the microwave-- all in Spanish. This class can be for kids who have had enough Spanish exposure to be able to read/sound out a few words, or even those who are more advanced and just love to cook and review Spanish. I will be giving the instructions first in Spanish, then in English-- depending on the ability of the class. We will be learning a few ordinal numbers, sequence vocabulary, and a few new verbs and nouns all associated with our cooking project. During the last 5-10 minutes of class, the students will taste their microwave creation and give an opinion in Spanish (with help if needed) about how it tastes!
Learning Goals
From my experience, kids learn languages much more quickly when they are doing something that interests them. Since this is a second language learning class, I feel real life exposure in the language will help them retain what they learn.
Students are encouraged to bring a notebook to class to write the new words and recipe down.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello Friends! ¡Hola Amigos!
My name is Julie. I live in a tiny town that probably has more animals than people!
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Development from Utah State University, with minors in Spanish and Music. I also have lived in Spain, learning to speak fluent Spanish.
Teaching kids of all ages is my greatest joy. I have four kids of my own ages 10 to 18.
My favorite things to teach are music, Spanish, history, and life skills. I have over 25 years combined experience teaching piano lessons, voice lessons, Spanish, ESL classes, and a variety of topics in the public school setting. I also have worked as a social worker with at risk youth by helping them learn skills to succeed in life.
My goal is to help kids learn to LOVE learning! I love helping students discover what they are passionate about, learning all they can, then discovering how that new knowledge fits into their own lives. Life is full of amazing adventures and great treasures to learn more about!
