Class Experience

Any required experience or knowledge learners need?
It's recommended that students in this class will have already taken part "A" to this class or have some previous experience with Spanish. I'm happy to consider exceptions.

What will be included in the class?
This class includes:
1. 50 minute live-instruction weekly with me, Señora Kouma
2. Free student profiles with Señor Wooly (on-demand Spanish song videos for Spanish learners)
3. Engaging and relevant weekly assignments
4. Feedback on assignments and progress (at least monthly)

How is the class structured?
In this class, we build a story! We begin class by reviewing the last week's new details of the story. Then, nearly all of class is spent hearing and practicing key vocabulary in an engaging, contextualized way as we discover who everyone in class is, what they want, and discover if they get it!

We also use songs and review/read our class story are part of homework.

Weekly In Class Summary:
-Introduce new vocabulary using ASL
-Review previous vocabulary
-Watch Señor Wooly video (occasionally)
-Create a class story

What will be taught? What topics will be covered?
Weekly Schedule (each week builds on the previous week)
Week 1: there is (haber), is (ser), start story (What is there? Who is everyone?)
Week 2: review, add more details to story
Week 3: is (estar), add details to story (Where is everyone?)
Week 4: review, add more details to story
Week 5: wants (querer), add details (What does everyone want?)
Week 6: review, add more details to story
Week 7: says (decir), add details (What does everyone say to request what they want?)
Week 8: review, add more details to story
Week 9: wrap up story lines (Does everyone get what they want or solve their problem?)

What is my teaching style?
My live instruction teaching style is very interactive and relational. The supplemental videos provided for additional review are, by nature, more lecture-style. I am caring, enthusiastic, organized, and encouraging.

How much will learners interact with me and their classmates?
In class, students interact heavily with me, and also have a chance to interact with each other when creating/reviewing stories.

Learning Goals

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Señor Wooly videos are used for the class- they are fun and silly and are appropriate for learners. Parents are welcome to screen them and I can "lock" any that aren't a good fit for your children.
Supply List
Students will also need to create a (free) Señor Wooly and Zoom account for the class (details are provided once students sign up for the class)
In the "Classroom" section of the class, I'll post a Google Docs link to our class story for weekly review.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
This is my passion- I love teaching, Spanish, and children!

I am licensed to teach K-12 Spanish and have a total of 7 years of experience. I have taught students ranging in age from 2-20 in groups of 1-15. I've taught in a private academy as well as in-home classes for homeschoolers.

We learn the vocabulary using ASL. I am not licensed to teach ASL, but my son is hard of hearing and we are learning ASL together as a family. I don't know ASL grammar, but ASL signs are used when learning the vocabulary in place of random (albeit logical) hand gestures.
