In this full immersion art appreciation class, we will discuss an array of art pieces by a variety of artists from all around the world. All conversations will be in Spanish.

⭐️Each week we will study a new artist, their style and their work. The teacher will present to the class while asking questions so students can think critically and provide their opinions. Classes will not build on each other so students can join this ongoing class at any time with no prerequisites. We will discuss the artist, style, important & interesting parts of the select work and techniques used, among other things. The teacher will show the works of art through pictures, present important and interesting information related to the work and then lead students in an open discussion prompting them to answer a variety of questions and give their own opinions. All reading, speaking and discussion will be done in Spanish (but Teacher Zia is fluent in English and can help if needed). This class will appeal to native speakers who love art but is also a great opportunity for your child to improve their fluency in Spanish & interact with other Spanish speakers while advancing culturally and learning about art. Some of the artists we will cover include but aren’t not limited to: Salvador Dalí Paul Klee Henri Matisse Grant Wood Franz Marc I.M. Pei Joan Miró Pablo Picasso M.C. Escher Roy Lichtenstein René Magritte Teacher Zia is an artist, a native Spanish speaker, has a Bachelor's degree in Art Education from the University of Puerto Rico and has taught art with the Department of Education on the island.
Learning Goals
Students will improve Spanish fluency while cultivating an appreciation for this language and for art.
Students will better understand how to analyze and critique a work of art.
Students will learn art related vocabulary and concepts in Spanish (including but not limited to; techniques, elements of art, principles of art, art movements/time periods, art mediums, etc.).

You will probably need paper and pencil to take notes. We will be learning about a ton of interesting things!
