Class Experience

This one time class will focus on one of the more confusing grammar concepts in Spanish, the use of Ser and Estar. Each verb is used in different circumstances. Therefore, it is important to clearly understand which verb to use in any given situation.
During class, we will first review the forms of both verbs. Next, we learn fun acronyms for each verb. These acronyms will help us remember the proper usage of each verb. Third, we will spend some time working together as a group to practice using the verbs correctly. Then, students will go to breakout rooms to work with a partner to continue applying their new knowledge. I will rotate through each room to offer help and guidance as needed, and afterward, we will all come together again to check our work. Finally, we will play a game of Kahoot together to further apply and solidify what we have learned in class, and I will answer any remaining questions the students may have.
Students who take this class should already have some experience with these verbs. This is meant to be a review and strengthening of the skill, not an introduction.

Learning Goals

Students will leave class with a knowledge of the forms of Ser and Estar, which both mean to be in Spanish. They will also learn acronyms that serve as memory tools for the uses of each verb. Finally, through group and individual practice, they will leave with a working understanding of when to use each verb.

Supply List
I will provide a set of guided notes as well as practice activities to be used in class. These will be in PDF format and should be printed out and ready for usage during class. In addition, we will be playing a game on Kahoot, so students will need another device with internet capabilities, separate from the one they are taking class on so that they can access and participate in the game.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I'm Jen. I am a wife and a work from home momma to a beautiful 3-year-old daughter. I enjoy travel, books, and movies, and I love kids! I've been working with children of all ages for more than 20 years.
I spent time abroad learning Spanish from native speakers in both Mexico and Argentina. I have a bachelor's degree in Spanish and a master's degree in education. I am state certified to teach Spanish and English at the secondary level, and I spent 6.5 years teaching Spanish in middle and high school. I am currently teaching English as a second language in the digital classroom.
I believe that all children have potential. I also know that they learn in different ways. I try to meet each child where they are and help them reach their potential by giving them support in any way I can. I like to make learning fun because the more fun we have, the more information we retain.
I plan to teach classes here on Outschool that focus on confusing grammar concepts in Spanish as well as conversation practice in Spanish. These classes will help learners become more confident and fluent Spanish speakers. I also plan to do fun storytime classes for younger students that will, hopefully, instill a love of reading. Finally, I would like to offer book club type classes for older learners where we can read and discuss books by some of my favorite authors, like Stephen King.
Thank you for taking the time to find out more about me. I hope to see you in my classroom soon!
