Spanish Reading Group: Calle Felicidad by Elisavet Arkolaki

-This class is designed for bilingual students. It is an opportunity for them to practice their Spanish reading skills, perfect their pronunciation, check their reading comprehension and acquire new vocabulary as well as interact with other bilingual learners. 
-Topics to be discussed will pertain to the story but we will focus on correct sentence structure when speaking and proper pronunciation while both reading and speaking. 
-Maestra Zia will engage the students in a group discussion after the portion of reading for that day is over. This will allow for the students to also practice their speaking fluency while confirming reading comprehension. 
-Class time will consist of greetings, read aloud time, and discussion. 
This class will be kept small to assure that each student has the opportunity to read out loud and receive individualized feedback from the teacher. 
-No homework will be assigned. 
-During our last meeting, students will be encouraged to explore the use of watercolors to create artwork based one of their own fond memories. Also, each student will write a short paragraph to go along with their artwork.
(**Note: It's important that each student have their own copy of the book in Spanish so they can have a turn reading in each meeting. Please DO NOT purchase the bilingual version of the book since we will be focused on reading comprehension in Spanish.)
This class is not specifically designed to teach students to read in Spanish. They should already have some ability to read. Instead this class is for perfecting that ability, acquiring reading/speaking fluency and expanding vocabulary.
