This class is designed for children who already speak and understand Spanish and need a place to practice it. It is valuable for Spanish maintenece and for additional aquisition of the language. The group will be kept at a maximum of five students in order to garantee participation opportunities for everyone. Students should be willing to read out loud, converse and write sentences in order to have the best learning experience. All the short stories used are visually stimulating and will be in digital format through screen share. Class time will consist of: -grammar practice -reading a short story -discussion and comprehension questions -sentence structure and grammar practice -writing sentences Topics/Stories Week#4 of February - Un Secreto en el Zoológico Week #1 of March - Por el Bosque Oscuro Week #2 of March - La Sorpresa Week #3 of March - ¿Dónde Estará? Maestra Zia is a happy teacher who loves to provide positive reinforcement and encourage student participation while instructing and modeling materials in a clear and fun way. Students will be encouraged to interact with each other in Spanish and because this is an ongoing class, they will have the opportunity to create rapport as they see each other on a consistent basis. Required experience. This is not basic/beginners class that introduces new Spanish language learners to key words. Though it provides additional language acquitistion for intermediate and advanced students, they should already have a large vocabulary base and some sentence structure knowledge. Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Education from University of Puerto Rico
Maestra Zia is a native Spanish speaker and has two degrees from the University of Puerto Rico. She lived on the island for over 20 years and has worked with the Department of Education there teaching children from Kindergarten through High school. She has also successfully raised fully bilingual children of her own.
Maestra Zia greatly enjoys providing simultaneous interpretation for the Hispanic and English-speaking community where she lives.
