US Grade Preschool - Kindergarten
This is a circle-time formatted class with greeting song, stories, and short activities to introduce various pre-academic skills in Spanish. Regular preschool topics include: social-emotional awareness, seasonal themes, simple science, music, art, shapes, etc. Because it is held three times a week, more in-depth exposure is given to language and practice, pre-literacy, science and math, thus increasing skills. Each class has a literacy and math component. Music and movement, science, literature, and arts are integrated each week. Each class is complete immersion, conducted solely in Spanish. Meaning is derived from movement, pictures, gestures, and real objects. Participation and interaction is encouraged from the students. We follow a set routine each class period: Welcome in child's native language (mostly English): 5 minutes Greet each child Brief intro to topic In Spanish: 20-25 minutes Welcome song How do we feel? Intro to shapes, colors, positional words, social/emotional, parts of the body Attendance - counting, numbers, subitizing, number representations Theme (science, social studies, literacy, etc.) - song and/or story, vocabulary with pictures or objects, activity We not only immerse in the language, but the actual experience of the theme.
