This Spanish immersion storytelling and art class is a beautiful space to listen and engage with a story and create a wonderful drawing. It is perfect for class for young children who are native and bilingual Spanish speakers as well as those who are looking to learn Spanish through immersion. Those who are already familiar with the Spanish language will love the rich stories that are based on things happening in nature, including fairy tales and animal stories. Those who are beginners and intermediate Spanish speakers will be in the perfect environment to develop their language skills through listening, observing and participating in songs, verses, movement, gestures, and stories. Through drawing children will learn more about the world around them whilst developing their imaginative and creative play. It will help them make connections in the world around them and the things they are learning. Drawing a picture following on from a story also develops the child's comprehension. Children who are here to learn Spanish as part of the class will also find that this is a great opportunity to grow their vocabulary, listening, reading and comprehension of the language. This class will follow a gentle rhythm. - Welcome - Candle and verse - Nature-based story - Art - Sharing of drawing - Goodbyes Following the Waldorf tradition, each class with begin with lighting a candle and saying a verse. This allows us to acknowledge the class has begun in a gentle way and helps the child focus on the teacher and the class. In all of our classes we welcome, acknowledge and listen to each child. We cultivate good classroom skills and we respect the child's boundaries and desire to participate, or not participate in class. STORIES The stories told in class are Spanish translations of old fairy tales, such as Grimms, Aesops and Hans Christian tales. The fairy tales have been adapted so they are age appropriate. We do not use screen share to show presentations or videos and we do not use anything pre-recorded, such as songs. Through human voice, instead of mechanical ones that we often find in modern kindergarten songs, children can experience living language as it should be. The way this class is formatted means it does not build on each other and no prior knowledge from previous weeks is required. Students may join at any time. INCLUSIVITY This is an inclusive class, meaning students of all abilities are welcome. If a student is unable to communicate verbally they are welcome to use the chat. If your student has any other needs that require accommodations please let me know and we will work together to make sure your student gets the best class experience possible.
