In this FOUR-week interactive, semester-long Spanish course, we will meet as a group THREE times per week for 45 minutes to learn Spanish. In the class students will develop the ability to understand and communicate in Spanish while playing games and having a ton of fun through reading short stories and class novels. 12 lessons//4 Weeks
Week 1Lesson 1Review of Spanish basics, Past Tense Review, Read Selena Class novel.Students will read and discuss chapters 1-2 of the novel Selena. Students will practice vocabulary and structures in a variety of fun and engaging activities. Students will listen to clips of Selenas songs and watch short videos of her life. Past tense conjugation will be the focus of this novel. Students will learn the difference between preterite and imperfect verb tenses.Lesson 2Selena Class novelStudents will read and discuss chapters 3-4 of the novel Selena. Students will practice vocabulary and structures in a variety of fun and engaging activities.Lesson 3Selena Class novelStudents will read and discuss chapters 5-6 of the novel Selena. Students will learn about the culture of the Dominican Republic (history and geography). The grammar focus is past tense. This class is taught in Spanish.
Students will acquire the Spanish language naturally while having fun reading a novel, class discussions and playing traditional games to reinforce vocabulary.
I have been a certified Spanish teacher for the past 25 years. I have a masters in education. I lived and studied in Spain for several years so I have a true Spanish accent (castellano). I have attended CI (comprehensible Input) conferences and implement the CI teaching strategy into my lessons.
Homework Offered
Optional Quizlet flashcards and authentic articles and videos will be available to reinforce vocabulary. Conjuguemos.com will be used to reinforce grammar. There will be minimal work to do outside of class, however, it is highly suggested that families encourage their children to practice the new vocabulary and concepts outside of the classroom. Practicing outside of class will give students the opportunity to relate the class material to their own life and environment which will help cement the new language in their brains.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Informal assessing will be used during class with optional writing and oral exam at the end of the course.Grades Offered

Students should have one year of Spanish to join this class.

In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Google Slides/Screen sharing- Class will be delivered using Google presentations and screen sharing. YouTube- I use this platform to share educational videos via screen sharing. Conjuguemos- this site will be used to practice verb conjugation Quizlet- I will assign optional activities on these educational platforms for reinforcement games/activities. There will a link provided.
