30 mins in-class hours per weekClass Experience
*No classes April 20-May 27* Get moving with this class where you will be exposed to different kinds of music from Spanish speaking countries and learn basic solo steps. IMPORTANT *You do not need any previous dance knowledge or experience. However, this class is taught in Spanish and learners are expected to be able to follow instructions, and interact in class in Spanish. This is a great opportunity for Heritage Speakers to join and connect with other Spanish speakers, as well as for Spanish language learners who are eager to use the language and have a good level of fluency and would like to practice more Spanish by doing something else they enjoy: Dancing!!!!* In this class, we will solo dance to Bachata, Merengue, Salsa, Cumbia Colombiana, and other dances that will get you moving as well. At the beginning of the class we will have a warm up which will get us moving and stretching, You will notice that the warm up is usually the same dance we explored the last class (Not the case if it is the first class of the session) Then, it is dancing time! We will work on one main dance each week, basic steps, body movement, and free styling. Then we will have our cool down and final stretch time which will lead to a quick sharing time for students to talk about the experience of the day. At the end of the session sometimes and if time allows, there is questions and comments time where we get to ask questions about the dances, the outfits, the instruments, anything related to the dance of the week or even clarify steps that may need some extra work. Every week we have a main dance which will be explained and practice that day. After 4 weeks the cycle starts again unless we have a special or extra dance like Vallenato, Mapalé, or other dance that will be announce in the Classroom wall. IMPORTANT: Dancers should have a bottle of water handy, wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing, and be in a space where they can show their moves! Supervision is always encouraged in case dancers need a reminder to get back on track or if they face any technology issue that might arise. This class is taught in Spanish.

Supply List
We might occasionally need some props or accessories for our classes such as a scarf, hat, long skirt, broom stick, etc. I will let you know it advance which items we might need. However, if learners do not have those items for class, they can still fully participate in class, no worries since those items are optional. If dancers want a similar skirt like the one from the class picture, or the one I use in classes to learn or practice Cumbia Colombiana, this is an option https://amzn.to/3OBLj4t

IMPORTANT: On leave
Hola todos, born and raised in Colombia, South America, in the land of coffee, salsa, love, and laughter, and of course Encanto.
I hold a BA in Bilingual education and a Masters Degree in using technology in the K-12 classroom. I am certified to teach K-12 Spanish, ELL, and in Bilingual Education.
Also, I have 13+ years of experience teaching languages as a second language. Here at OutSchool, I teach all levels of my beautiful native language, Español (Spanish), and share the love for latin dances in my Latin Dances classes.
I believe anyone can become fluent in Spanish when they find the right fit for them, whether it is full immersion or a mix of English and Spanish, grammar focused or fun conversational approach, starting with structures or pronunciation first and more. So, if you have the interest to learn Spanish, I have the interest to help you find your method.
Fun fact: I learned Colombian Sign Language before learning English, so I use a lot of hand movements and gestures while talking which makes language learning even easier!
