US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 1
This is a flexible counterpart to our live version class. This class can: 1) introduce your child to Spanish through kindergarten content 2) be your main Spanish teaching program with you supplementing at home 3) or be a supplement to your homeschool or child's school program. Each day, for four days of the week, we will have a short video lesson in literacy, math, and either science, art/music, or social studies. These can be watched at your convenience and integrated in your daily schedule. There may also be a video or post to help non Spanish-speaking parents teach content. Songs used include: - Songs to remember: the alphabet, numbers, days of the week, etc. - Authentic songs like "Juanito Cuando Baila," will be sung - Authentic literature, such as "Cucú : un cuento folklórico mexicano - Cuckoo: a Mexican folktale" and poetry - Familiar translated stories, such as "The Three Little Pigs" and "Little Red Riding" will also be used - Printouts will be provided for games such as Bingo that we will play in class. Families will be notified beforehand if materials will be needed. Daily (4 days) scheduled videos: Calendar, weather/graphing Literacy - story or poem (Mondays), phonics, phonological awareness skills, etc. Specials (science, art, music) Math Interaction: Students are encouraged to record themselves (audio or video) singing the songs they've learned, counting, showing their artwork, and sharing their projects. Live meetings are optional. We will plan at least 4 live meetings with the section participants altogether (there will be 2 options for each meeting, so everyone can participate), and an individual conference with each student as the weeks progress. 8 weeks progress in skills, the 9th week is for catch up and student conferences: Week 1: Phonics - Aa; phonological awareness; Math - through calendar we will recognize, write, and represent numbers, days of the week, months, and seasons; comparisons/ordering Week 2: Phonics - Ee; phonological awareness; Math - through calendar we will recognize, write, and represent numbers; comparisons of sets Week 3: Phonics - Ii; phonological awareness; Math - through calendar we will recognize, write, and represent numbers; greater than/less than Week 4: Phonics - Oo; phonological awareness; Math - through calendar we will recognize, write, and represent numbers; the number line Week 5: Phonics - Uu; phonological awareness; Math - through calendar we will recognize, write, and represent numbers; number line; math symbols Week 6: Phonics - Mm; syllables and words con /m/; phonological awareness; Math - through calendar we will recognize, write, and represent numbers; comparisons; number line Week 7: Phonics - Pp; syllables and words with /p/; words with M and P; simple sentences; phonological awareness; Math - through calendar we will recognize, write, and represent numbers; number line Week 8: Phonics - Ss; syllables and words with /s/; words with M, P, and S; simple sentences; phonological awareness; Math - through calendar we will recognize, write, and represent numbers; number line; number bonds Week 9: Catch-up week with feedback. We can also hold a last live class this week for practice or a conference. There are 4 quarters to complete Kindergarten. Each quarter builds on the previous quarters and culminate in covering all Kindergarten skills in literacy, math, and science in Spanish. This is Part 1 and will provide a foundation of letters, syllables, phonemic awareness, numbers, and biology topics. Art and music will be integrated with subjects.
Learning Goals
Literacy: recognize, write upper and lowercase vowels and three consonants; begin to read syllables, small words, and high-frequency words
Math: counting objects; begin to recognize, write, and represent numbers to 10 in different ways; preparing and understanding charts and graphs; comparing, classifying, sequencing; days of week, months of the year
