This course is fully conducted in Spanish with an emphasis on language development and cultural appreciation. It combines interactive lectures and discussions with language instruction towards fluency and vocabulary expansion. Each week we will explore one country or a famous city. We will visit some of its most iconic places via virtual tours, including both natural exploration as well as architectural landmarks. We will provide a comprehensive overview of the culture from multiple perspectives: food, art, festivals and traditions, learning what makes every place unique. Wee of January 5 Greece: The beginning of Modernity. Week of January 12 Egypt. How to ride a camel. Going to the pyramids Wee of January 19 Italy. A day in Rome. Visiting the Vatican and Michelangelo's art. Week of January 26 From Naples to Pompeii. Week of February 2 The Inca Trail in Perú. Week of February 9 Oaxaca Mexico: unique artisans and their work. Week of February 16 India. Visiting the Taj Mahal. Exploring the music and folklore of India. Week of February 23 China: Bridges of Zhejiang and The Great Wall of China. Week of March 2 France: Paris, the city of lights. Week of March 9 Mystic Japan: Shrines, gardens and traditions: The world of samurais. Week of March 16 Australia: The smallest continent. Week of March 23 The United Kingdom: It's time for tea. Week of April 6 Guatemala: Exploring the Jungle Week of April 13 Gauchos en Argentina Week of April 20 Around Germany Week of April 27 Barcelona and "La Sagrada Familia." Week of May 4 Around Mexico City. Week of May 11 Historical Monuments of the United States. New topics will be added soon. Students will engage in activities and class discussions along the lesson. The intended audience for this class is advanced intermediate to native speakers. Since this class is immersion-style, students should be fluent in the language. We always, however, teach advanced vocabulary related to the topic in question. For example, while discussing Flamenco dance, learners will be able to name all the instruments, dance steps, dress pieces, etc...
