Class Experience

In this ongoing class, children will learn basic vocabulary, expressions, and sentence patterns around different topics every week (greetings, numbers, colors, family, house, food and drinks, pets, emotions, shapes, animals, the body, clothes, transportation, the weather, the seasons, jobs, places in town, toys, school, and many more themes!) Since we have a topic per week, the first class of the week I will be introducing vocabulary (ten words max), and in the second class of the week we will be reviewing and practicing making full sentences using the vocabulary learned. We will also have a fun game of Gimkit, Blooket or Kahoot at the end of class! Each class will be delivered through colorful slides with lots of visual aids, interactive activities, songs, stories, and educational games that are fun and age appropriate. We will also practice all four language skills - speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Students will be immerse in the language and will have fun working together to achieve their language learning goals. After class, students will receive a set of flashcards and links to fun online games to practice made by us. This class runs all year, with different topics each week, and you can enroll any time of the year!

Here are the topics for the month March-April:

Week of March 17th - ¿Dónde está? (Where is it? - prepositions of place)
Week of March 24th - ¿Cómo es? (What is it like? - adjectives)
Week of March 31st - Accesorios (Accessories - What do they have?)
Week of April 7th - El desayuno (Breakfast)
Week of April 14th - Mi tiempo libre (My free time - hobbies)

BEFORE THE SESSION:

✔️When signing into the platform, please make sure to display your child's name (the same one you registered them with), so that we can allow them into the session.
✔️Please make sure the student knows how to use Zoom. Show them where the chat feature is and how to mute and unmute.
✔️Camera and microphone should be on at the start of the class. We need to verify all learners through a video check for safety reasons.

DURING THE SESSION:

✔️If you are sitting in the room with your child, we ask that you do not distract them by encouraging them to speak Spanish or
helping them as it may disrupt the flow of the group. If your child wants/must answer a question in English, needs help, or is feeling shy, we will support them.
✔️Only the student enrolled can be seen on camera.
✔️Please make sure the student is in a quiet environment.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE CLASS

✔️We always teach the material the first day of the week and practice the second day of the week, so if your learner misses the first class of any given week, make sure they watch the recording and work on the games and activities before their second class.
✔️Practicing outside of class is vital. Download the flashcards for them and have them work on the online games to practice the new language.
✔️Students are not required to know how to read perfectly (in English), however, many of the activities we do in class do require being able to identify words.
✔️Please make sure students arrive on time to avoid disruptions.
✔️We play educational games during class, and these resources are incredibly valuable. Your learner may need help during class with accessing some of them (e.g. Kahoot; Blooket). In that case, they will be given an access code. No need to sign up! The websites are:

https://blooket.com/play

Thank you for your cooperation!

Learning Goals

Students will learn vocabulary, expressions, and sentence patterns around different topics. They will also improve their language skills - speaking, listening, reading, and writing.

¡Hola, bienvenidos a SOL!

At SOL, we believe that learning a new language unlocks a world of endless possibilities, while fostering cultural awareness, empathy, and respect. Our goal is to create a fun, vibrant, and nurturing environment where kids can develop a deep love for the Spanish language.

Our Mission

We are committed to providing an enriching online learning experience that builds confidence, encourages curiosity, and makes learning Spanish an exciting journey. With every lesson, we aim to create a space where children feel empowered to speak, practice, and explore their language skills in a safe, happy setting.

Why Choose SOL?

Our passionate team of native Spanish-speaking teachers brings a wealth of experience in education and online learning. We genuinely enjoy working with children and use a variety of engaging methods to keep them motivated. Whether through theme-based instruction, gamification, or the natural approach to language learning, our lessons are designed to be dynamic, interactive, and enjoyable.

Each week, students explore new vocabulary and sentence patterns using fun interactive activities and games to reinforce what they've learned. Our approach is rooted in making learning both meaningful and fun.

How We Teach

Classes at SOL are student-centered, with minimal translation, encouraging natural language acquisition. Just like when they learned their first language, children at SOL develop their Spanish skills through practice, positive reinforcement, gentle corrections, and the use of gestures, body language, and visual aids.

We also incorporate gamification into our lessons, making learning both engaging and fun. By using game-like elements, we motivate students to stay involved, progress at their own pace, and enjoy the learning process. Gamification helps create a sense of achievement and boosts retention, keeping children excited and eager to learn.
