Class Experience

In this class, students will explore Spanish-speaking culture and learn to express their own activities, likes/dislikes, favorites and other aspects of their own worlds through weekly activities. Each week will feature new vocabulary, allowing students to join at any time. Some items may be recycled, but these will be made comprehensible to all through gestures, pictures and other strategies.

The class structure will be as follows:
1. Review vocabulary
2. Practice using vocabulary in a fun context (e.g. fly-swatter game, matching game, etc.)
3. Practice vocabulary semi-independently in an activity that mimics real-life interactions (i.e. a conversation, a role-playing scenario, an information gap, etc.)
4. Review the results of activity #3
5. Assign an extension, for if students would like to continue practicing these skills

Topics will change weekly under a common monthly theme. Vocabulary will be made entirely comprehensible through visuals and gestures from class to class, meaning that students will be able to join at any time regardless of whether they have attended previous classes. I will differentiate the questions that I ask more advanced students to provide an adequate challenge if they have attended prior sessions.
