Description
Class Experience
This class is taught in English.
Students will learn Spanish words through pictures, coloring, memory, and recall. They will gain confidence in their Spanish Language abilities and begin to learn basic words for everyday use. I believe all learning should have a space for student-led focus, interaction, conversation, and a comfort level where students feel ownership of their learning goals. As a critical pedagogy educator, I want to make all the learners who enter my classes feel heard, accepted, and valued. When young students identify learning as fun and safe, they want to come back for more on their terms.
I am an experienced educator who has taught at nearly every level of instruction from pre-k to college level! My very first job out of high school was as a bilingual instructional aide for the Head Start program in my city. I taught monolingual Spanish speakers in a dual immersion capacity in an elementary school in Minnesota for 2 years and I also have over three years of experience teaching English language learners in an online capacity. I currently teach undergraduate students who are preparing to become K-12 teachers, many of whom plan to work in a dual immersion classroom. I am confident speaking, reading, and writing as a heritage speaker.
No homework, but students can print out the four different cards to play with parents and siblings at home! Learning through play is the best homework!
Four different versions of game cards will be made available for students to play with parents and siblings after class. The game will include 10 new Spanish words. Students will only color one page in class with the teacher to prepare for our game at the end of class. Crayons or colored pencils will also be used to color the Loteria cards. *Learners should also have some type of "bingo" markers (at least 9). Some items can be pennies, legos, etc. Latinx families usually play Loteria using dry beans :)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
